About DIER

The Department's activities are arranged into divisions. These Divisions are supported by the Corporate Services Division and by the Office of the Secretary. The Department also provides support to the operations of Private Forests Tasmania, Racing Services Tasmania and Forest Practices Authority.  A senior Management Team, the Executive Group is made up of  the Secretary and the Deputy Secretaries, and the General Manager Corporate Services.  Each Division of DIER has core responsibilities that bring together infrastructure for social and economic development in Tasmania.
Corporate Services
Provides corporate policy, professional services and advice in relation to financial, communication, physical and human resources, as well as corporate affairs, business planning and quality management. 

Land Transport Safety
Promotes the safe and efficient movement of all traffic within the Tasmanian land transport system.  This Division also undertakes the Department's statutory responsibilities for maintaining a safe and efficient transport system.

Mineral Resources Tasmania
Responsible for the provision of information and tenement regulation to foster responsible mineral resource development and land management to the benefit of the Tasmanian community. 
Office of the Secretary
An interface between the Ministers, the Secretary and the Parliament of Tasmania. 

Racing Services Tasmania
Responsible for stewardship, registration, licensing, integrity controls and bookmaker activities covering all three codes of racing in Tasmania - thoroughbred, harness and greyhound.  RST is a division of DIER and services the Tasmanian racing industry from its offices in Launceston. 

Roads and Traffic
Responsible for management of the roads and bridges network and shipping services. 
Infrastructure Policy and Planning
Responsible for the planning, development and/or review of integrated transport system policies. 

Office of Energy Planning & Conservation
The Office is primarily responsible for the provision of policy advice on energy issues to the Tasmanian Government. 

Passenger Transport
Responsible for development of policy for bus and taxi services, and management of contracts for delivering student and general access bus services.

The Portfolios of the Ministers cover a range of Government Business Enterprises. The Department provides policy advice, support and guidance to the Ministers in the oversight of these businesses.
