The Office of Energy Planning and Conservation is focused on ensuring that reliable, efficient, safe, sustainable and competitively priced energy is available to all Tasmanian consumers.

We achieve this by providing policy advice on energy issues to the Minister and the Tasmanian Government.

We also provide input into the development of the framework for the regulation of industry participants, in Tasmania's energy industry.

The statutory positions of Director of Energy Planning and the Jurisdictional System Security Coordinator are supported by the Office of Energy Planning and Conservation. The Deputy Secretary, Energy Resources, a senior DIER executive, currently fills both positions.

The Jurisdictional System Security Coordinator has particular responsibilities for ensuring preparedness of the Tasmanian entities to manage electricity supply emergencies. Details are provided under Emergency Management.

Have a look at New Developments to see the major issues currently affecting energy in Tasmania.
