Workplace Safety Board of Tasmania

The Workplace Safety Board of Tasmania was established under section 8 of the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988. Its functions are:

  1. to advise the Minister on matters relating to workers rehabilitation and compensation;
  2. to oversee the operation of workers rehabilitation and compensation procedures;
  3. to promote understanding of the Act through education, promotion or any other appropriate means;
  4. to inquire into and keep under review the incidence and cost of occupational injuries and disease;
  5. to review the performance of licensed and self-insurers and the operation of the Nominal Insurer;
  6. to review and monitor premium rates charged by licensed insurers;
  7. to ensure, so far as is practicable, the efficient operation of workers rehabilitation and compensation insurance arrangements;
  8. to review, evaluate and advise the Minister on rehabilitation programs and practices;
  9. to promote and support the effective occupational rehabilitation of injured workers and their early return to work;
  10. to review the performance of accredited medical practitioners and accredited persons;
  11. to manager the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Fund;
  12. to collect sufficient data to enable an actuary to conduct an annual review of the operation and performance of workers rehabilitation and compensation arrangements under this Act; and
  13. such other functions as may be prescribed.

This Committee was established under Division 5,
section 121 of the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988.
Its functions are to manage claims under the Act where
an employer does not hold a policy of workers compensation insurance

Workplace Health and Safety Appeals Tribunal

This Tribunal was established under section 45 of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995 and the Tribunal currently consists of Magistrate Ian Matterson.

Hairdressers' Registration Advisory Board

This Board was established under section 5 of the Hairdressers' Registration Act 1975. Its functions are:

  1. to give advice to the Secretary on any matter in respect of which the Act provides for its giving advice to him; and
  2. to give advice and to make recommendations to the Secretary on other matters relating to the administration of the Act, both at the request of the Secretary and on its own initiative.

Plumbers and Gas-fitters Registration Board

The Board consists of seven members and was established under section 3 of the Plumbers and Gas-fitters Registration Act 1951

The Board is responsible for ensuring that persons operating as plumbers and gas-fitters in Tasmania are qualified; issues certificates of registration and deals with complaints.
